Biography

Krystal Ng is a partner in the Tax, Trade and Wealth Management Practice Group at Wong & Partners. Her primary focus is on tax and transfer pricing issues in the context of cross‑border transactions, as well as post‑mergers and acquisitions integration for multinational clients across a wide range of industries.

Krystal is ranked for Tax by Chambers Asia Pacific and is commended for "always being reliable in providing professional feedback". She is also recognized as a Highly Regarded practitioner and a Women in Tax Leader by International Tax Review and is named as a Leading Partner for Tax by Legal 500 Asia Pacific.

Practice Focus

Krystal's practice extends to the provision of strategic tax advice on a broad range of subjects such as income tax, double tax treaties, withholding tax, real property gains tax, assisting with tax incentives and exemptions as well as the planning and management of transfer pricing considerations to achieve an optimal and more tax effective model on a domestic, regional or global level.

She is regularly called upon by clients to advise on international and domestic tax planning matters concerning in-bound investments to achieve an optimal and effective business model, tax structuring and integrations post-merger and acquisitions, as well as negotiating tax incentive applications for foreign investments into Malaysia.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Advised a major oil and gas company on transfer pricing compliance, audit strategy, and policy reviews across Malaysia and the region, coordinating multijurisdictional advice to ensure a consistent global approach.
  • Advised a global manufacturer of critical products & high performance materials with respect to the tax and transfer pricing planning opportunities in the context of their regional operating model.
  • Advised a large online travel platform operator on the Malaysian tax aspects of a regional restructuring, including transfer pricing, indirect tax, and operating model considerations.
  • Advised a global information technology company on the tax aspects of the carve-out and integration of the Malaysian segment of it’s electrical transport systems business, including the establishment of a holding vehicle, asset transfers, and post-restructuring integration.
  • Advised one of the world's largest oil and gas companies on the Malaysian tax and transactional aspects of a restructuring exercise involving an indirect sale of Malaysian shares, including capital gains tax implications, transaction structuring, and tax risk management.
  • Advised a global leader in maritime solutions and services on its global reorganisation and corporate restructuring exercise, with the primary goal of de-centralising operational risks and optimising the Group’s overall tax position.
  • Advised a New York Stock Exchange-listed global medical technology leader, on the transfer of intellectual property (IP) owned by Ireland to Malaysia and successfully obtained a Malaysian tax exemption in connection with the instrument of transfer. The beneficial rights to the IP is valued at USD 3 billion.
  • Represented a Japanese conglomerate group in oil and gas on the restructuring of their shareholding structure and advised on tax planning opportunities resulting in substantial tax savings.
  • Assisted a leading global technology solutions manufacturer on the tax aspects of establishing a manufacturing facility in Malaysia, with a focus on tax optimisation strategies and Pillar Two planning. 
  • Successfully represented the regional logistics hub of a leading German luxury automotive manufacturer in a stamp duty dispute, securing the reduction of a MYR 8.7 million assessment on a master loan agreement to approximately MYR 8,777, through the application of stamp duty remission provisions.
